Dear Beacon Families,
This year your Beacon will have the opportunity of experiencing the exciting “teaming” of Mrs. Price and Mrs. Gellert. Mrs. Price will be teaching all day Mondays, all day Tuesdays and also Wednesday mornings. Mrs. Price has a BA in Elementary Education in K-8 and has been teaching for 16 years. She has taught 2nd-5th grades. The exciting news is that from 2000-2002 Mrs. Price taught 3rd and 4th grades at Seabury! In addition, Mrs. Price has conducted workshops training teachers in innovative and effective math instruction. Mrs. Price looks forward to teaching again at Seabury due to the curiosity of the students, the community of families and the incredible staff. Mrs. Gellert will teach Wednesday afternoons, all day Thursdays and all day Fridays. Mrs. Gellert has a BA in Elementary Education K-8, and a Masters in Education (M.Ed), but considers herself a lifelong learner. Mrs. Gellert has taught for a total of 23 years. This year marks her 16th year teaching at Seabury! She loves Seabury and is committed to its excellence in education. Mrs. Gellert is delighted she will be teaching your child this year.
Both Mrs. Price and Mrs. Gellert are passionate about gifted education and enjoy sharing their love of learning with their students. Through teaming, Mrs. Price and Mrs. Gellert will strive each day to focus on your child's individual social, emotional and intellectual needs by providing educationally enriching, academically challenging and enjoyable learning.
Seabury has a two-year rotational, thematic curriculum. This year the theme is "Transitions." We have planned an extensive, enriching, interdisciplinary curriculum complete with numerous exciting, stimulating activities, projects and field trips for Language Arts, Science, Math, Social Studies, Geography, Technology, Current Events, Community Service and Global Awareness. Our goal is to make this an exceptional educational year for your child.
As with each year, an important curricular goal is to help make learning exciting and relevant. During the first trimester, the Beacons’ Social Studies curriculum will focus on Explorers. The second trimester will be American Colonialism. We will have a “living museum” exhibit in the spring. Puget Sound History will be our third trimester focus of study. In Science, the first trimester will focus on Vertebrates; the second trimester will be Human Body; and the third trimester will be Ecosystems. We will be having an “Invention Convention” at the end of the year. We have arranged for field trips throughout the year as they relate to your child’s curriculum. These additional enriching educational experiences will help us fulfill our goal of making learning come alive for your child.
Whether it is a field trip away from school grounds or a day of discovering in the classroom, each child's daily Seabury experience is of utmost importance to us. One key component for your child's educational, social, emotional growth and developmental success at school is to keep the lines of communication open. We are firm believers in active parent/teacher/student communication. Our door is always open. So, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at school: 253-952-3111 or at betsyg@seabury.org. When Mrs. Price’s email contact for school is set up, we will send it to you. Please also view our new classroom blog so that you are kept abreast of the Beacons’ classroom activities. It is http://www.2010seaburybeacons.blogspot.com/.
We will be giving a more detailed description of our program and a class schedule at Curriculum Night, Thursday, Sept. 23rd. This will also be the time for parents to sign up for volunteer opportunities. If you are not able to be there that night, we will send this information home in your child’s Thursday packet.
We are looking forward to seeing your exceptional Beacon on the first day of school, Wednesday, September 1st. We start class promptly at 8:15. We are committed to making this a wonderful year in the life of your child. We intend to make it the most positive year of your child's educational experience. Thank you for the privilege of teaching your child this year. See you September 1st!
Sincerely,
Betsy Gellert and Tiffany Price
